I am looking to build a new PC, I don't need much, the main applications I'll be running are: Notepad++, Oracle VirtualBox*, Chrome, Gimp, And maybe a little Minecraft. I already have some specs: 4gb of ram, probably a core 2 quad, atleast 1tb of storage, and I will decide on a gpu later. The asterisk on Oracle VirtualBox is referring to the fact that all I will really be running is probably a Windows nt VM every once and a while.

@UnderFact I'd go for 8 gigs of RAM since DDR2 is usually pretty cheap and since VirtualBox can use quite a huge amount of RAM. If you can find a cheap (!) LGA 1366 machine, go for it, but a Core 2 Quad is still a solid choice. You don't need anything special for the GPU since those applications don't require much CPU horsepower, I'd go for a GTX 500/600 graphics card (except the GTX 550(ti) or GTX 650) or, if you like AMD better, go for a 6000/7000 graphics card (except the HD 6850/6870/7770 since those are pretty weak nowadays)
