CPU vs Coprocessor vs GPU

Hi,

 

I am learning for my final exams in computer science and the difference is not clear to me between the CPU, Coprocessor and the GPU.

I know that the CPU is the central processing unit I know the internal parts (CU, ALU...)

The GPU is the graphical processing unit basically the cpu of the video card and is better at floating point operations.

The coprocessor sound a lot like the gpu in the sense that it takes on the floating points instead of the cpu.

 

The latest coprocessor I read about online is the intel xeon Phi and it is compared to nvidia tesla. Is the nvidia tesla a coprocessor as well?

The nvidia tesla isn't marketed as a coprocessor but as an accelerated computing device and it takes intense loads off of the cpu just like the coprocessor.

 

However my book is outdated and it doesn't even mention the GPU.

Is the coprocessor still a thing in computers nowdays?

Yes, this is really good, thank so additional chipsets on motherboard like GPU, sound card, hardwer controll... is a coprocessor.
