hi i have i custom built gaming system and am using motherboard audio which is fine as my headphones are kmart special and that has worked fine with nice clear sound since the system was built. however i recently came across an ethernet PCI card and installed it, my audio drastically degraded with hissing and popping all over the place, so i removed this card thinking it was causing EMI but the problem still persists. anyone got any CHEAP suggestions

Get a cheap add in sound card to replace your on-board. You can try uninstalling and re-installing the drivers to see if this helps, but I dont think it will personally.
