Hi Folks,

My girlfriend's mother just recently received about $2000 from her work to upgrade her at home setup and she asked me to assist her. I'm thinking maybe a 24" monitor for primary, a second monitor rotated in portrait for good document viewing, and this would all be hooked up to a laptop docking station.

I figured the laptop might as well be this, but I'm open to suggestions:

So yeah if you guys could toss me some links and give opinions it would be much appreciated!

Thanks.

That's basically my setup, but with a Latitude E6440 instead.  If you get the Dell dock, make sure you get the one with the dual DisplayPort/DVI outputs and USB 3.  They cost a bit more on eBay, but worth it. I wouldn't bother rotating the second monitor.  The setup will work in triple screens (laptop + 2 external screens).

I'm a fan of the 7000-series Latitudes over the 5000 series.  Ie: E7470.

moved to new build planning

Solve your own audio issues  |  First Steps with RPi 3  |  Humidity & Condensation  |  Sleep & Hibernation  |  Overclocking RAM  |  Making Backups  |  Displays  |  4K / 8K / 16K / etc.  |  Do I need 80+ Platinum?

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.

If space permits something like LG 34UM94-P or LG 34UB67-B would be good for document based work.

A docking stations is not really necessary. Just make sure the laptop has an HDMI connection for an external monitor.

Is a laptop really necessary?

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.

Yeah a laptop is necessary cuz she works from multiple locations. I want to go with the docking station for simplicity reasons. She isn't tech savvy in the slightest, so being able to just dock the computer will be a real bonus.

Plugging an HDMI cable into a laptop is pretty simple, even for the technically challenged.
