microcenter open box

so my microcenter has a evga 1080 FE open box would it be worth it? it is 629$

Probably some 16 year old that bought it on launch to brag and then his parents made him return it.

They all get checked and do allow you to return it if there are any problems. Go for it.

Doesn't the FE thermal throttle and have poop power? It wouldnt make sense to buy that card unless you were planning to watercool it. And even then it is a stretch.

No and no. The fan curve by default is admittedly slightly reserved, but that is easily fixable. Take care of cooling and the 1080 can fly. [below is exaggeration, obviously]

Isn't the SC one $629 brand new? I have no issues with open box hardware but I would just go with a board partner card.

Nope. SC is $649 new and they are sold out everywhere so.

Well I guess it depends on how long you are willing to wait wnd a bit on personal preference, the FE card will do fine with a higher fan curve, max temps and power limit but looks and stuff are subjective. If you can wait a couple of weeks. I would as it will increase availability and lower prices a little. If you really want the card now and are okay with it being a little louder then go with it.

I personally really like the FE design and it holds a lot of status. If I could get one for that cheap I would, though I'm planning on getting a 1070.

My X99 Deluxe and one of my 980 Ti in my main rig, as well as the 380X in my secondary rig are open box from Microcenter.   No problems whatsoever.   I believe they have a 14 day return policy instead of the normal 30 however.
