Does GPU video compression help the CPU processor?

1: cpu = central processing unit. Saying cpu processor is rather redundant.

2: I assume you mean does compressing video reduce the processing load during playback. If so, the answer is yes, but not a whole lot unless you're going from say, 1080p to 480p. Though now a days, there really isn't a reason to. Most processors can handle playback easily. Also, the GPU plays virtuall no role in this.

If you mean using a processor to compress video, then the load is quite heavy.

If you mean recording gameplay and compressing it, then the use of even heavier.

Though in honesty, I don't entirely know what you're asking

Basically I am asking is what do they mean that Pascal is better at video compression. For what reason is that relevant? Does it reduce the load of the processor by giving it less data to read? or does it reduce the load of the GPU?

They mean it'll be more efficient at rendering with their memory compression. What video card and processor do you have now? Depending on what you have, a 1080 could help you or be a huge bottleneck

I have a GTX 660 ti, and i7 4790k processor... I don't see how it would bottleneck my CPU when it's already getting bottlenecked on one thread.

It is for bandwidth when streaming in data to the VRAM

But isn't that GDDR5X?

Or are you implying it would use less memory? For example a game uses 4gb of VRAM but the new pascal will make it use 3 GB of VRAM.

No, it means it can make use of its bandwidth more effectively. It just means better performance.
