So i'm kind of confused does the MSI B85-G43 Gaming motherboard support overclocking? like can it overclock an i7 4790K?
Cause some ppl say it can some say it can't...
And if it doesn't would it be better to get a 4790 (non k) instead or just get the k for the extra clock speed?

the B85 can overclock CPUs after a BIOS update. That is a risk i wouldn't take at all (updating bios). stick to a non k CPU strictly. Also, don't even try to SLI on that board, it's probably crossfire only

EDIT: It is likely that the board can only overclock those Pentiums despite a BIOS update

Well mine has the latest bios update and what i wanna use the cpu for is gaming/video rendering and maybe streaming and VR in the future, also if i'm not able to overclock it would prolly not be an issue i'm more interested if it's worth getting the K over the normal version performance vise

B85's are great for overclocking Pentiums. That said, I don't think they can overclock a 4790K. Even if they could, I'd be worried about damaging the board.

If you want to overclock, get a Z97 board. If you want the B85 board, get a non-K 4790 (or a Xeon E3 1231V3 if you can live without integrated graphics). You'd save a lot of money going B85+Xeon instead of Z97+4790K, but you'd take a bit of a performance hit in the long term.

I enjoy buying junk and sinking more money than it's worth into it to make it less junk.

An 1231V3 is an i7-4770 without an iGPU. Perfectly good CPU if you don't need integrated graphics and don't want to overclock.
