Noob with BSOD

Go to solution Solved by Kapono,

Ok I'll take a stab at it tomorrow. As long as the process doesn't require a product key, which it hopefully shouldn't since I have a copy of Windows 10 on this machine already, I can probably handle it on my own. Anyways, thanks for your help, this has been a huge lot more than I could find anywhere else on the Internet and I especially did not want to take this to bestbuy or some other electronics store where I'd have to pay for help

Its all good man, and nah It wont require a Key, Windows 10's free, If It does there should be a "skip for now" button around :D

Do you mind making this post "solved"? You should be able to find It. :)

Guys I'm new here and not particularly skilled with computers and I've encountered a pretty grave situation with my laptop.

I was updating drivers the other day (the suspected source of the issue) and followed the updates up by running ccleaner. When I rebooted my computer, it booted straight into BSOD without letting me get to the desktop. I don't have any other computers to use and I'm not skilled enough to really understand/fix this on my own. Thus I have no clue how to get the dump files from the BSOD. Anyways, the BSOD did say that the error is called "PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA (FPWinIo.sys)"

Any help would be appreciated.

Hey man,

Just asking, but what were the drivers you were trying to Install?

If you may try boot Into Safe Mode...

And remove what ever you tried to Install/update.

How do I boot into safe mode on Windows 10 without being able to first go on to the desktop? I've tried googling that and I couldn't find it and then came here to ask for help

Do you get to see anything before the BSOD comes up?

Yes, it shows what I believe is the logo for the motherboard in the machine, the blue Windows logo on a black background with the little circular loading icon and then it blue-screens. I can send a video if necessary.

As for drivers, I pretty much went through the list on device manager and updated everything

What was the thing you updated to make It to BSOD? Do you remember?

Well I updated everything at once so it's going to be hard to tell exactly which driver is causing this. I updated my video card's driver, my razed deathadder's driver, my fingerprint scanner, I believe there was one for the CPU in some form, the network card driver was updated, the sound drivers probably were as well... This may have been foolish, but I even went through and updated stuff that I didn't know such as "generic usb hub" and other stuff like that.

Sweet, so you can access Boot Options. Now do you own a USB? If you do I want you to get another fresh copy of Windows 10 on It. Then plug It In your laptop  go to Boot Options (F7) and open the USB from there, It will proceed to Install Windows 10, overwrite It, And you're done

You plug the USB Into another computer and Install that Windows 10 copy onto the USB. It should be easy...

Windows 10 Download - https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

Please keep me updated as i will guide you right through.

Alright. I'm doing my homework at the moment I'll try that out in about half an hour. If it makes any difference in the process, I got this computer running Windows 8.1 and got the free upgrade to Windows 10.

I wouldn't upgrade to Windows 10, but cause other OS's are like $100+, It's better to just go with Windows 10...

One last thing, if I have the Windows 8.1 install disk, would I be able to use that?

Yup, that's even better. It must have the Windows on there though.

All you have to do Is have everything off slide It In, If nothing pops up just click F7 (Boot Options), and you should see It there. (The CD) :D

Ok just to clarify, it's ok that it's a Windows 8.1 install disc even if I have Windows 10 on my computer?
