Microstutter & WiFi issues in Windows 10

FIXED!!!  Sound card was the problem!

I can't, for the life of me, figure out what the issue is with whatever Windows 10 system I've used.  For some reason, I constantly get microstutter in my games.  Likewise, I get weird hickups over WiFi.  On my older laptop, this these exact same issues happen when I "upgraded" to Windows 10.  These issues didn't happen on Windows 8.1.  Anybody know of any solutions?

Things I've tried:

  • Disabling/Uninstalling XBOX Live
  • Adjust window's latency timer
  • Did something else that I can't remember.  It fixed the issue for a bit but it came back.
  • Changed my WiFi card.

Usually the problem is due to a driver issue with the following components.

  • Graphics card
  • Wireless card and Ethernet adapter
  • Sound chip/card

The general fix is to:

  1. Make sure you install the latest motherboard drivers installed on your system. If there is no improvement after doing so and restarting the system, continue.
  2. Download the latest drivers for your graphics card, wireless card (if any), Ethernet card (if any), and sound card/chip.
  3. Uninstall via 'Programs & Features' (if you can't, uninstall them via Device Manager), your wireless card / Ethernet card, and sound.
  4. Restart your system.
  5. Install the downloaded drivers, and restart your system once again.

Keep in mind the following:

  • If you have a Killer or other specialty Ethernet/Wireless card, be sure to install the base drivers, and avoid installing anything else. Usually these fancy devices 'causes more problem them help.
  • When you install any drivers, be sure to select "Advanced" or "Custom" option if you can, and install only the needed drivers. For example, you don't need GeForce Experience (you can install it later on, once your problem is solved), Nvidia 3D Vision stuff, Wireless card wireless manager utilities, RAID controller software/configuration panel (assuming you don't have a RAID setup), and so on.

If nothing helps, then check if the problem isn't a peripheral. Unplug any not core peripheral or hardware out of your system. For example: Printer, external HDD, sound card, USB headset, etc.
