Okay guys,

Ive done some thinking and research and I think I'm going to cannibalize my current computer and build a new machine to prep for getting a GTX 1080 with my christmas bonus.

What do you guys think of this build?

Let me know if there are any glaring problems or if there is another part I should pick somewhere. Thanks everyone.

P.S. I'm only buying the case, MB, and CPU. I have everything else already.

EDIT: I am building all of the machine in the next two weeks (summer grants FTW) and then only getting the new GPU at christmas time.

Looks good. <3

EDIT: If I were you I'd make sure that you love the case before purchasing it because that'll be the case that you look at everytime you power it on and depending on where it sits, you could be looking at the insides more often, like the guys above said, it could look empty, but then again, sometimes it looks good when you do it right.

Looks good, might wait for Polaris though if you´re buying in Chrismas. What are you going to do with your current stuff?

Are you building this PC in Christmas? If yes, then ask us around that time frame. The later you ask, the more appropriate an accurate recommendations you will get.

The problem is that this is an nVidia product and scoring any nVidia product a "zero" is also highly predictive of the number of nVidia products the reviewer will receive for review in the future.

His endless dick jokes and toilet humor are annoying as well.

No I'm building the system in the next two weeks with the 780 in it, and then will get either a 1070 or a 1080 and possibly a new monitor once I get my christmas bonus. The system is going to be built soon.

you're basically throwing money away with the 1080, either buy the 1070 or upgrade your monitor.

Yeah I am going to try and either get a new monitor or get a 1070 once more information on the 1000's series cards and depending on how big my bonus is.

Existing build is gonna either go into the closet for a server, or is gonna get sold to a friend who is in need of a decent machine.

I appreciate the idea of waiting for Polaris, but I think I'm pretty solidly a fanboy of the green team so unless they absolutely hit it out of the park (which they very well might) I expect to be happy with intel/nvidia come the end of the year.

Your pc will just look very "empty" in that big of a case but I like your choice!  But since your are going to wait for Christmas I would maby just want to see what AMD brings to the table with their new cpu's coming soon

Yeah I was a little worried about that, I also looked at:

NZXT S340 (was worried about HDD mounts not being easy or nice enough but love the basement)

Corsair 600C (love the window, but not crazy about the inverted attic PSU space)

If it's just for gaming, then

Mobo: Any H110 board

CPU: i5-6500

Case: Anything.

You can ditch the AiO CPU cooler as well going this route. An Arctic Freezer or a Hyper T4/212 would do just fine.

I wouldn't mind doing some streaming with the rig as well. Will that setup be able to handle it?

Also since I might get a HTC vive from my program at my job, would this machine be VR ready with the i5?

For serious/professional streaming, get an i7-6700. Otherwise this will be fine.

And yes with the i5. Not with the current GPU, but you said you'll be upgrading soon.
