Any Projector Recommendations?

I've never looked into getting a projector until recently so I'm completely new to this space and don't really know where to start looking.

So here is the scenario/ use case:

I'm slowly moving to into an apartment in the summer for school the upcoming semester but it's really small so I figured that I would get a projector rather that than a TV or monitor. I don't plan on getting cable so I don't really need an actual TV. Since the place I'm moving into is really small but want a bigger screen than my laptop to watch movies and Youtube on, I figured that a projector would be a nice alternative as it would save a lot of space. I have a white wall that I could project onto but can't mount a TV since I'm renting the place.

 

tl;dr

Do you guys a have any recommendations on a good bang for buck projector that I could hook up my laptop to for casual movie watching? Preferably 1080p and compact (ish) and at around the $300 CAD or less price point?
