I have recently gotten a msi z97s krait edition and an i7 4790k. my gpu is the sapphire radeon r9 280 and for some reason windows wont detect it when its in the 16x PCIe slot. The weird thing is it posts when I plug my monitor into the gpu and the gpu is detected in the bios, but when I launch windows it runs at a weird resolution and when I try to launch any of the gpus software it says there is no graphics card in it. is this a hardware or software failure and how can I fix it?

any help will be greatly appreciated

did you try using other pcie 16x slot? also make sure you got the right driver for the right version of windows etc etc

the only other slot is a 8x PCIe slot that it works ok in, but it looks bad and I would like the extra bandwidth

the extra bandwidth doesnt help and i guess i cant say anything about the looks

and it seems like the pcie slot is possibly broken if the gpu works for the other slot

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately
