Yes... I know my avatar is literally an Ubuntu based pony. I can see that. But I suck at Linux...

In short, I've installed Ubuntu Server 14.04 LTS using Logical Volume Management and would like to dual-boot LUbuntu WITHOUT erasing any data. Is that possible, and how can I do it? I have two pictures of the installation menu below.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

If you can find a way to resize the existing partition and create an empty space for the other OS, then you should be able to install the other OS without losing your data.

Of course, you should have this data backed up anyway in case something goes wrong.

That's what I thought, but my problem is I have absolutely no clue how partitioning works on Linux and don't want to change anything. I don't actually know which partition to resize.

The ext4 partition looks like the partition for your existing OS.

Although what's /dev/sda5? Do you have another drive in the computer?

This laptop only has one hard drive. I would be able to confidently resize it if there were only one partition like that, but both vg-root and sda5 are near the size of the drive...

Ah, well I would say /dev/sda5 if you can confirm it's free space.

I'm going to try partitioning from the already installed server OS. I went into live mode and GParted shows the OS on sda5.

Update: I stopped messing with it after 15 minutes and did something else for a while. It's probably easy, but I can't be bothered. Thanks anyway.
