Ubuntu 16.04 Graphics Issue

Hi there, I have installed ubuntu in an SSD to mess around a bit with it, everything is working fine except for the resolution. It detects 1280 x 720 as default, but it doesn't scale the UI correctly (Picture attached, sorry for the potato quality) If I set it in 1920 x 1080 (the res I use in Windows) it will scale the UI correctly but it looks awfull, very blurry and missing pixels from everywhere. I have tried updating the graphics card drivers (Now Ubuntu 16.04 doesn't support the official AMD drivers so I've gone with 3rd party ones) but that hasn't helped either. Any sugestions? I wouldn't mind 720 if it scaled correctly since I'm not going to game on it. Also my graphics card is a HD6850. thanks!

Your system is overscanning. If you have the amd drivers installed(not the default in 16.04, but can be installed) you can change it in aticonfig(or aticccle in the terminal.

 

For the radeon driver you can this with xrandr. 

 

If your using hdmi try changing to dvi/vga.

Sometimes when I reboot it will scale correctly in 720, but if i change anything it will go back to the messed up UI. I have tried to install the latest drivers from AMD but I can't get them to install

that's because the amd drivers are for 14.x and not updated yet. Click the unity icon type update and software and updates and cluck additional drivers. It will look online and find drivers for your gpu
