I can't really figure out how to do this one question and i'm really tired of trying different things to solve it. My teacher hasn't taught us this yet but it's part of an assignment so if someone can help me figure out how to do it, it would be very much appreciated. DO NOT give me the answer, I just need to know the procedure and then I'm pretty sure I can do it from there.

 

f(x)=3(x-3)(x-5)(x+2), I have to translate this function 4 units left and 5 units down and then sketch it. Only problem is, I don't know how to get it into vertex form -__-

yeah i got the x-ints and y-int of the current function, but how do i figure out the x-ints and y-ints of the function after it has been transformed

What you have in brackets becomes a zero with the opposite value. So (x-3) would yield a zero at x=3. Plot all three of em, and assuming you know how to, set up an inequalities table with the changepoints being the values inside said brackets.

add or subtract inside each bracket to move it left or right, add or subtract to the whole function to move it up or down

Y=3X starts in 0,0

Y=3X+2 starts in 0,2

Y=3(X+2) starts in 2,0

You can't get it into vertex form because it's not a quadratic equation. Hint: You have to modify each x the same way to translate it left/right. And then modify the whole function to translate it up/down. Think of the mapping rule.

To solve it just set all the separate quantities to equal zero then solve.
