Why never play it?

I see a lot of people in Twitch chat who don't play the game and just watches it as a spectator sport. Kinda like a lot of people watch football but they don't play it. Same thing goes for SC.

Takes a lot of time and knowledge to become decent at SC.

It definitely does take much time to be decent. Starting out as a newb who never knew of this wonderful world of competitive online RTS play I have come a long way. I have played nearly 8000 ladder team games and only a few hundred 1v1's. I still suck compared to the best of the best and have only ever been in masters league once in a team. And am platinum 1v1.

I was a former high diamond verging on masters then stopped for about a year. Starting to get back into it now and seems im around a High plat or low diamond. It amazing how much time you need to play the game just to be decent.

I completely agree. The competition grows over time just like anything. I will tell you I went several seasons without playing 1v1. I was in gold league. Now I am in platinum league and I get games against gold league players that go 4-5 and 6 bases. It's insane! When I quit playing 1v1's primarily a few seasons ago most gold league games were 1-2 base games.

One good advice is to watch pro players play the ladder and copy some of their builds. Especially ones of your race that gives replay analysis (or on the fly analysis), doing that itself can get you really good game knowledge.

But yeah it takes a big gut to get through ladder anxiety. Missing out 2-3 days of SC will make you fall back in so much. I was surprised I even won my placement match for 1v1 this season :p i just 4 gated him LOL, of course that doesnt make me better but i just do it because i hate PvP.

I know. :P That is part of my problem. I never watch pro games or replays or day[9] or any of that. I used to watch GLS and the first season of NASL but I find myself just wanting to play whenever I do watch videos. I just want to play. :P I can't help it. That's why I have nearly 8k ladder games :0

I know it's a big downfall and replay analysis is a crucial part of advancement.....

and yes mirror matches are always a drag. I don't play P 1v1 but I must say tvt is a total drag.

North American terran: top platinum 1v1 / top diamond-masters team right here.

Really frustrated I didn't place into diamond this season... I win my placement match and my opponent gets placed in dia and I'm stuck in plat? :(

Watching tvt is fun (don't play t but I'm sure like all mirrors it's not fun to play)' date=' playing or watching pvp/zvz is frustrating(playing)/boring(watching) though in my opinion.[/quote']

TvT is just so Zzzzzz. Half the time it's just who has the higher siege + viking count.

Not zzzzzzzzz. Watch MMA vs Gumiho in GSTL finals, easily best game of 2012 (tvt). You can find it on GOMTV.

It's all about your MMR rating. If you didn't play much last season then either your mmr dropped or essetially everyone passed you. Doesn't really matter if you win or lose your placements.

It's fun to watch high skill tvt, but playing it, especially at a lower level, is a different story. It's really because we're not nearly as good as top terrans. :)
