What to do with multiple computers??

Folding at home Boinc? Make one a home server? Use for a backup system? 

 

What hardware do they have? That will be the limiting factor to what they can do, and how well.

You can format the hdd and that will get rid of the OS installed. 

As for making windows into a NAS, as long as you are on the same LAN, you can share a folder or entire drive using windows built in tools.
