Steam_api.dll error!

I am getting an error like this in the screenshot in games like darksiders and in borderlands which says that steam_api.dll missing

How to fix these.

you tried verifying the game cache in steam

verify game cache is your number 1 answer like all the time.

Unless you had that problem where i did and windows detected steam_api.dll was a virus

Actually it is not a game bought from steam (from pc retail)
