I don't know why but lately sony vegas says that it's using 60-70% CPU, usually 67%, and yet projects are only rendering at 2fps (literally.) It's becoming a real issue because my projects aren't being rendered nearly as fast as they used to be going. I have enabled 'use CUDA' because I own a 980 ti and my CPU is a 5820K @ 4.4 Ghz 1.25 V - I don't understand this anymore because the settings that I'm rendering in are default 720p with CUDA enabled. Any ideas on solutions? Also do you think this could be a hardware or software related issue? ]

I feel like a scrub coming for help when the problem could be very simple but I'm stuck ;-; And I don't really have the time to be messing around looking at hundreds of solutions and webpages when this lovely forum can help me out much quicker :D I hope.... :P

I had that problem when my Ram was unknowingly maxed out...

Also you couyld try using Proxy video editing...but you must have already done that i presume?

Thats strange....Did you try in premiere to see if the problem persisted across applications? or is it just vegas pro?

Tried it with CUDA, OpenCL and CPU Only, still have the problem. I think I forgot to mention that the pre-rendered Intro is quickly rendered (usual speed that I expect) and as soon as it gets into the actual video it slows down tremendously to 2-3 FPS.

Ok found it....its an issue with the api....compatibilty problem with modern drivers.....CUDA is not working in other words...

Also its a common problem apparently

So solution

1. Roll back drivers and check performance

2, Download CUDA toolkit (recommended)https://developer.nvidia.com/cuda-downloads

By 'roll back drivers' I'm assuming you mean the NVidia drivers.

Yes. Nvidia drivers are crap currently. Use 361.75

Yeah sorry for not being specific...

But you might want to try the CUDA toolkit which I recommended,...

Also check GPU usage to see if it peaks while scrubbing...but I thats only for your informantion...first step in diagnosting :)

Anyway,,there are many people who have the same issue...youtube will tell you that...

It seems llike the solution lies in the CUDA doownloads link which I gave,,,but you might want to check up youtube to see how it goes around

EDIT:- it works....try the CUDA toolkit

I tried to CUDA toolikit, I restarted and it still stops at the 263th frame and slows down to 2/3 fps... God dammit >:(

Well, I downloaded the CUDA fix, ran it, saved it, opened it up just to check that it worked. Tried Sony Vegas, nothing. Restarted, tried it again, nothing. But I shall try again for SCIENCE!

I had a lot of problems with Sony Vegas when I trialed it. It was by far the slowest to render compared to the competition and I had rollback the Nvidia drivers to get it to work. It only seemed to use CUDA when rendering effects anyway, all the basic encoding was done on the CPU making it exceptionally slow for unaltered footage.

The answer is definitely in and around CUDA and Nvidia drivers. These problems may have hit at the wrong moment since I was purchasing a month ago and was irritated by the issues in Vegas that I discounted it pretty quickly.
