Hi.

I'm looking at upgrading my trusty gaming PC for VR compatibility.

My PC is literally just out of the way, and the cheap way to do it would to upgrade my CPU and GPU with a minuscule upgrade.

If I'm going to go for the cheap-ish alternative, I'd probably get a non-overclockable CPU (something like an i7-4770 or an i7-4790) and spend all the money on the GPU and get something like an R9 390X.

I've been comparing the price difference between i7-4790K's because I want to upgrade to an overclockable CPU but I am confused as to whether I go with Skylake over Haswell.

If you want to see my list of components, look at my profile page.

Thanks, Alpha.

You really don't need that much of an upgrade on your CPU. Focus on buying your Vive first; it's irrelevant to think of a VR PC without the VR goggles.

Next, buy a Gtx 1080 / 1070. Raw performance aside, these new GPUs have so many features for VR that any other card is rendered moot. Go for the 1080 if you can.

If, and only IF you still have spare money to spend, then we can talk about a CPU upgrade.
