I've been using a single monitor setup for about a year now and am ready to upgrade.

Simply, would it be worth waiting for the Oculus or diving straight in for a 7970 and going for a triple monitor setup with eyefinity?

Obviously I've not had any experience with the Oculus although i have with eyefinity.

In terms of games, i usually play a whole variety of games that range from most FPSs like BF3 and CS:GO to games such as awesomenauts and Guild wars.

Currently using an i7 2700k which from benchmarks, doesnt seem to present any bottlenecking problems as far as i can see.

Any help appreciated

:P ME..

-Also, im currently using a 560ti which i'm not really wanting to upgrade unless going eyefinity -

- money no object -

I feel that Oculus is the future but personally I'm not going to invest in one until they increase the resolution. If I were you I would wait for the new AMD GPUs and buy one of them and then maybe go Eyefinity although I have never been a fan of Eyefinity and "Mult-Screen" Gaming

Oculus seems to be a more immersive experience than eyefinity. You should also consider that eyefinity can also be used for various things other than gaming, such as work or other situations where you would need to see and manage multiple things at once making it more useful for some people.

i'd say go for the 7970 with triple monitors because you also play mmo's and side-scrollers and the oculus won't support that

This^

Do not go Crossfire (if you ever plan to) until AMD fixes the Eyefinity Crossfire problems they have. Just a heads up.

Each has its own merits, The Rift gives a much more immersive experience and is completely new, whilst eyefinity can be used outside of gaming, though arguments could be made for the rift in that aspect too.

Rift would probably require a GPU upgrade if you wanted to max out games, to about 7950/760 + Level.

Personally I would go Rift just for the hugely immersive experience, though the fact its still not got a set release date does mean it could take its time. Consider both options, neither is a bad choice.

If I were in your shoes I would get the oculus because I can't stand gaming on multiple screens and i want to try my hand in programming for the platform. I only use multiple screens for multitasking and have no interest in gaming on a tri screen set up

For you the question would be when do you want to do the upgrade. If its sooner rather than later I would recommend the triple screen set up because the developer oculus is low res and there's no indication of if/when they will release the higher def dev kit and there's is no release date for the consumer variation.

With the oculus rift you are IN the world, the low res doesn't distract from the experience nearly as bad as you might think it does.

I got to try it at gamescom and trust me, you will not give two s**ts about eyefinity once you tried a rift. It is hard to express its awsomeness with words, I highly suggest trying one if you can so you know what the hype is about ;)

I was going to say Eyefinity is much more mature/developed than Occ Rift so the comparision isn't really fair

then I remembered frame pacing issues that STILL exist lololololololol

but seriously, I think it's not a fair comparision. surround/eyefinity has been around a while now - Occ Rift is just the next, newer step in immersion like it was going from one monitor to 3 years ago
