Hey guys, I'm planning on making a 6700k build (mobo and all). I have an original Cooler Master Cosmos (yeah, the one from like 2006) and I'm planning on upgrading to a Corsair 900D case. I feel I wouldnt be doing this build justice if I didn't plan to liquid cool it but I cant really find what it is I personally am looking for. All the liquid cooling kits seem to lack heart, but searching myself for the perfect this or that without really knowing whats good or bad isn't helping much. At the moment I just need to cool my cpu but I want to be able to add a 1080 to the loop once it A) comes out and B) gets a block. The 900D has plenty of real estate for rads so I was thinking something like a 420mm or 480mm rad (hell maybe even 2 if itd help for the gpu). Money isnt much of an issue for this build but I am a fan of price per performance so I'm not just gonna get something because its more expensive. While this is my first liquid cooling project I know my way around these kinds of things and am not worried about the risks or challenges associated with pumpin water (inb4 its not water) through my comp.

Tl;dr, new build in a 900D, need advice on setting up my first liquid cooling build.

If you're just going for a single component you wouldn't need much more than a 240 or 360 rad for that alone, however if you want to redo the loop or when you do the loop also include a graphics card then a 480 would be a good investment. Are you looking for any particular theme or color scheme perhaps in this build or just a general list of parts?

Thanks for the reply man

To be honest I'll probably be building this after the 1080 has been out for a while so I'd want to know how many rads I would need for cpu + gpu combo. I heard a good rule of thumb is 240mm per component which seems to be your idea with the single 480. Would it be better to buy a single 480 or to get multiple 240s?

And as for theme, probably black/metallic with dark blue liquid (cant imagine any of that would be unreasonable). But I am getting full noctua industrial 3000 pwm fans so I'm really not too worried about it all matching 100% perfect. I'm looking for performance over aesthetic but I still do care about aesthetic.

Depending on your case you can easily go with 2x 240mm or a single 480mm rad which will be plenty to cool the components. The case will also impact a couple other parts like if you can/want to go with a bay res or not.

I didn't include a GPU block but I estimate they'll be around $110 to $130. For fittings you'll probably need between 12 and 16 depending on what you choose and I would suggest 15+ meters of tubing to be on the safe side.

*If you don't like the blue or want to make it darker. Only go with this if you choose the Pastel concentrate though.

Jesus dude thanks so much. I just have a couple questions about all this.

Is it better to have a pump/res combo or just get them separate? Also if I do go for the combo will I need an extra res or pump to make sure everything goes through correctly or I have enough liquid?

Another question which is more of a statement: I believe that the coolant you showed is actually dye and what kind of coolant should I be looking to use. Also what about biocide?

Will the fittings all match with the tubing?

The pump/res combo or getting them separate is all up to your preference, I personally like the combo but other people don't, however if you do go with a combo you won't need another pump or res in addition to it.

So the Pastel concentrate I linked in Coolant:

https://www.ekwb.com/shop/ek-ekoolant-pastel-blue-concentrate-250ml

Has the biocide in it already, you just mix it with distilled water. I would suggest picking up 2 of them to make 2L of coolant to make sure you have enough.

I added the dye as well in case you want to make it darker but only get that if you go with the Pastel, I'm not sure of its compatibility with the other one I linked.

The fittings will match the tube, if you look at the ID of the tubing and the ID of the fittings they are both 12mm and the OD on both is 16mm.

Alright thank you very much you've been a ton of help.

Just one last question if you don't mind; how many fittings will I need for this if I choose to go with the pump/res combo a cpu cooler and single 480 rad?

If I counted right you'll need 10 which includes the GPU block.

CPU, Res, Pump/Res, GPU, and 2 extra in case I missed something.

That sounds completely reasonable and thanks for all the help man you made this build 1000 times easier.

Thanks again man you've been awesome.
