on topic: outperform in what game? on pc you have the option of picking parts based on what you'll be playing.

1: anything non-k on intel doesnt overclock. even back when skylake non-k's werent nerfed OCing them caused a whole load of oddities.

2: that cooler wont even overclock my pi...

Reduce it to a pentium G3258 (the overclockable one) and get the R9 380, just more performance and also better at dx12.

but the pentium will choke on a lot of multi-core games, i believe GTA V was one of the examples where a dual core really doesnt cut it anymore.

Would an amd a4 860k be better since it is 4 core or would the pentium be better because of newer architecture?

Don't touch any AMD cpu.

Stay away from the 3258.  If you can't afford a quad core, get an i3 with HT.

Don't waste money on an aftermarket cooler.  The stock Intel is fine since you won't be over clocking.  I had a fan seize up on an i3.  It didn't over heat.  I didn't even know the fan was dead until I opened the case.  It wasn't over clocked.

If you have broadband, buy SSD.  Even a 240gb will do.  Only install games that you're going to play.  SSD will blow your mind.

Stick with the 960 and skip the 380.  The PSU in that case won't be enough to handle AMD cards safely.  Specially if you over clock.  I would wait on buying the gpu tho.  You might be able to get a 970 for $250 a month from now.  I'm guessing the 960 will sell for around $150, 950 will be the hundred dollar gpu.
