question about steam redeem codes

I want to buy the Fallout anthology but I have one problem. I already own fallout new vegas, but no DLC. The anthology comes with a code for the ultamate edition. if i enter that code in steam, will it work, or will it not? will I just get the dlc or a copy of new vegas to give a friend along with all the dlc? Thanks!

If you redeem that code (probably) one person gets both the DLC and the game.  There is a chance it might allow you to save the game as a steam gift but I cant guarantee it.
