Are you using the original install disk (Grey disc)? 

Yiu may have to remove the hard drive and scan it for bad sectors.

Idk what key you press when you want to boot into apples menu to do stuff. but im pretty sure you need to have a reliable internet connection to reinstall OSX because the MacBook will download everything from apple then install it.

That is only for newer models, I think 2010 and later.  Previous to that they need a restore DVD or USB.
