Hello all,

After just over a year im thinking about changing to a new case.

Right now im looking at the h440 and fractal design r5. While the r5 seems very practical, i just think it looks boring whereas the h440 looks nice and sleek, but doesant look very effective in terms of cooling, also im nervous in completley ditching my optical drive

I was hoping to get some user opinions on either case, and any other case suggestions.

Really im just after anything that looks cool and is well made, though if its a 'silent case' then thats a nice bonus.

Thank you

Both are great cases.

for me I decide based on:

Color

Size

Price

and then I look into features, etc.

As for silence, almost all of a PC's noise comes from CPU fan and case fans, all of which are replaceable. Good airflow plays a factor, but both those cases are excellent in that respect.

I am going to recommend the Phanteks Eclipse P400s, as it has lights!

As for the optical drive, when you need it, open up your case, plug it in, use it, then remove. I recommend getting a single external anyways.

Well, with an i7, GTX 1080, Full tower and flashy lights, it can obviously only be for one thing:

I use the H440 myself and I would go with it over the r5. It's sleek looking and as cooling goes it's really not that bad. You have big intake holes hidden on the top and bottom and no exhaust on the top unless you add fans so no restriction there. And I think that moduvent thing looks really ugly.

Tip to those that are new on LTT forum- quote a post so that the person you are quoting gets a notification, otherwise they'll have no idea that you did. You can also use a tag such as @Ryoutarou97 (replace my username with anyone's. You should get a dropdown after you type the "@")to send a notification, but quoting is preferable.

Feel free to PM me about absolutely anything be it tech, math, literature, etc. I'll try my best to help. I'm currently looking for a cheap used build for around $25 to set up as a home server if anyone is selling.

If you are a native speaker please use proper English if you can. Punctuation, capitalization, and spelling are as important to making your message readable as proper night theme formatting is.

My build is fully operational, but won't be posted until after I get a GPU in it and the case arted up.

My only compaint with the H440 is how much static pressure you need to get air through a radiator and the front and top vents.

From what i know that case doesant have many reviews though. Ill look into it some more as it looks just about perfect for my needs.

Thanks for the reply!

You're in luck! My little brother bought the P400 Window (non-S) and I can say it is an amazing case, beautiful cable management. A bit loud, but I expect the S varient (silent) to be much quieter.

Only other downside were the SSD mounts, which were side-screws only, so my brother's Hue+ had to be mounted to a han grill (it has bottom only screws) but PCPP catches that.

Nice! How quiet is the case? I figured i may aswell go for silence as my psu and gpu have that 'zero rpm' fan mode technology, and im uogeading to a be quiet cooler soon.

Also hows cable management?

My solution is to use way too many rads (or way too large rads) and run fans really slowly. It's something like $35 for a 120mm extension + fan. That's well worth it.

Yeah, Intel CPUs don't output heat at all, and Nvidia GPUs are cool as ice

That is entirely un-true.

My brother's GTX 760 was topping 70 C the other day (ACX 2.0)

and my i5 4690k (4.5 GHz OC) Consistently hits 60 C under load on a 212 EVO

My only qualm with my R5 is the lack of a psu shroud.  I know a lot of people will think "I'll just make my own PSU shroud".  I thought this as well but am still yet to do it.  I've made mockups out of cardboard, but they never look very good because of the shape/space/positioning inside the case (the bottom of the window doesn't align with where the top of the shroud would be)

- ASUS X99 Deluxe - i7 5820k - Nvidia GTX 1080ti SLi - 4x4GB EVGA SSC 2800mhz DDR4 - Samsung SM951 500 - 2x Samsung 850 EVO 512 -

The case is completely silent and produces no noise. The fans on the other hand...  It's filled with a crap-ton of sound dampening foam, so about as quiet as can be, I suppose. I didn't do cable management so much as stuffing it all in the PSU shroud and running only what I had to through the back tray, but it's pretty good.
