Quick question about ram slots.

Go to solution Solved by Oshino Shinobu,

Depends on the channel layout, but typically you want them in 1st and 3rd or 2nd and 4th. Having them in 2nd and 4th will have no performance difference from 1st and 3rd.

So I'm looking at turning my HTPC back to air cooling to keep the noise down (less fans and less maintenance) and would like to get a big air cooler but due to my ram being so tall I have to limit options at the moment. So question is does ram placement matter? I've got 2 sticks of 8gb in the 1st and 3rd slot from the cpu, can I move them to the 2nd and 4th slot?

Yeah a lot of people, including Linus, just build with the RAM in the farthest matched slots to start with. Its fine as long as they match for dual channel.
