I was playing today and found out that my pagefile was maxed out and my ram was showing 4 gb out of 8 (afterburner). I have the win7 performance gadget on my second screen and that was showing 100% ram usage. Task manager says i have 4gb of ram. CPU-Z, afterburner and bios say that i have 8. WTF? I have a 64 bit windows 7 home premium installation. I am responding tomorrow because im really tired. Sorry :)

Trust me its not an unrelated question, but have you overclocked the CPU?

When lyfe gives you HDDs, make SSDs

Run Memtest32 and see what happens. It's not as likely as a memory controller issue caused by a CPU overclock, but it's a possibility. However, if you had some dead sticks of memory, your computer probably wouldn't boot so I'm doubting this theory more and more as I write this.

Yes i have a overclocked my cpu and gpu.

First use this solution:

Task manager tends to have problems detecting stuff after overclocking but its usually CPU stuff. Are you limited by any means in terms of RAM?

Load up applications and see if you can exceed 4gigs. If you can , just wait for a windows update

Some people have solved the problem by reinstalling windows.

Next:-

Check if CPU (the actual one) has any bent pins..this is relevant as the CPU has the memory controller

If the problem is still not solved its the problem of the motherboard. If you can exceed 4 gigs while usage, it shouldnt bother you, otherwise, get your mobo checked.

I ran memtest, it detected only 4 gigs. Then i tried reseating my ram and that helped. (or my computer just randomly fixed itself...again) Windows detects and uses 8 gigs now. Thanks for the help :D
