I've been having a problem lately with random crashes, normally happening with gaming, my pc just shuts off and restarts, no warning on the actual computer or any freezing, I'd like to know if there's any components in specific I should check, or if it could be something on my pc

Download coretemp to check your cpu temp.  Which GPU do you have? If you have an MSI, you can download MSI Afterburner to get the GPU temp.

I've been checking that, getting average temps, 40 at idle with around 60 on load, I also still have these problems when I use other software to get my fan speeds maxed out, and my gpu is an evga 980

THIS IS A CRISIS!!!

I am having this same exact issue. I just built my first gaming rig about a month ago then all of a sudden, my PC restarts randomly without warning. So far, it happens only when I play Dark Souls 3 for over 5 minutes and when I run 3d Mark 11 benchmarks (free version), back to back. I always have my temp monitoring programs up on my second screen so I can see how it's doing. Everything looks normal, although something I've now noticed has been showing up frequently in GPU-Z. It shows in PerfCap Reason, when I do GPU intensive things, a blue bar that continues to fill up completely. It never did that before when I played Dark Souls 3. This has only started happening since Tuesday this week. But at first it was short blue bars with massive gray skips. It had only shut down once and I thought the power had gone out. But now it's happening every single time. No warning. No BSoD. Just a hard restart. It's infuriating.

I've looked into my case to see if a capacitor was no good on my mobo but they all look fine. I've also checked to see if my drivers were up-to-date and they are.

My CPU and GPU temps are where they're usually at when idle and gaming.
Idle: CPU(30-32*C); GPU(63*C).
Gaming: CPU(35-40*C); GPU(64-71*C)

NOTE:: I've also used EVGA PrecisionX 16 to verify the temp results of GPU-Z and they are exactly the same.

My GPU always stays below 80*C and usually never goes higher than 74*C even when playing Dark Souls 3. The only time it's hit 80*C is during a 3d Mark 11 benchmark.
I am literally pulling hair right now trying to figure this out. I would appreciate if I could get ANY help with this. Also, I have yet to overclock my rig. Was intended to be a summer project but now I probably won't be doing that because of this issue.

My Specs:
CPU: i7-6700k
GPU: EVGA GTX 980-TI FTW

MoBo: ASUS Z170-A

PSU: EVGA SUPERNOVA 650W P2 (80+ Platinum)
OS: Windows 10 Pro 64-bit (on SSD [Don't think it's important but I don't know])

My only thought right now would be that I have a faulty PSU but it doesn't make sense considering my PC was working with Star Citizen, which is just as strenuous as DS3, over a week ago. What is so different about this week? DS3 worked completely fine when I first bought it last week. I don't know what to do and the internet hasn't been very helpful thus far. Thank you for any advice you can offer!
