A while ago my I asked my ISP why my speed sucks so much. Their answer was that my home cable are old (it's true the cables are 20 years old) and they weren't ment to be used for internet but only for phone usage. They told me if i change my cables at home I will have better speed.

Does anyone knows what cable should I buy?

Is it true that by upgrading my home phone cables I will have better speed? If yes will it be worth or not?

I think they are just dirty lairs...

Waiting for your answers and thanks for your time!

I take it you are stuck with DSL?

It's true that old cable can be an issue sometimes but on DSL, the real issue is distance. The farther you are, the worse the speed you get.

EDIT: ahh, i see your speed now. Seems Okay for DSL... If that's what you have, that is

It is true that newer technologies for transfering information can transfer information faster

fiber > phone cable

Although check so that your cable can support the same or higher data capacity as you pay for, so that it still doesnt create a bottleneck

What's your ISP? Can you link the website?

Nevermind that, this is your package page right? https://www.cyta.com.cy/internet-home-products/en

Seems you are Out of luck. As they state, it's "UP TO" 24 mbps. As it's dsl, you would only get 24 mbps if you were across the street from their HQ

See this chart

it should say that when you began your subscription, on your bill, or if you call them they can probably tell you what your internet speed is

I see, you meant the speed of the cables, you will probably have to talk to the person rigging them up about the difference, or google online if you want to do it yourself

Check the chart I have edited on my post just above. You are on the red dotted line. As you can see, the speed goes way down the further you are from their HQ. You are unfortunately Out of Luck to get anything better speed with DSL. You're only way to get anything better would be to get an ISP with Cable or better, Fiber.

Changing your cabling wouldn't change much in your theoretical maximum speed

Still i'm 2578meters from their H.Q. which means i should have more than 5MBps and i'm stuck under 5!

How are you calculating the distance? Google maps?

It doesn,t work that way unfortunately. It's the distance of telephone cable lines that matters. Even if you were across the street, the distance isn't 10 meters. The cable may go around the entire block before going to you.

Still theoretical. But I dunno cause it may be different than in Canada.

There is one thing worth asking them though.

I dunno if they offer the possibility in Italy, but in Canada, you could ask them to have either DSL "FastPath" or "Interleaved"

Fastpath is the usual one they set.

Interleaved is an error correction setting they can usually set. It increase Ping time by a small amount, however, if your connection is unstable (due to distance or other factors), it may help you get better speed by a small margin.

Can you suggest me a cable to change my wires at home?

I don't even think there are different grades of phone cabling. The technology is too old. Where is your modem in your home? That's the only cable part that matters. Is it right where the ISP's cable goes inside your home or all the way up in your room? That distance itself can make a big difference.

If you want to, try to move your modem as close as possible to you isp's cable and test from there with a 6 foot phone cable. It'll essentially remove your home wiring from the values.

Btw i checked my router and it says

Modulation Type ADSL_2plus
Data Path (Up/Down) Interleaved/Interleaved
Interleave Depth (Up/Down) 2/32
Interleave Delay (Up/Down) 1.91/7.97 ms
Actual Rate (Up/Down) 785/4542 kbps
Attainable Rate (Up/Down) 785/5332 kbps

Actual Rate is higher than i get...

Bad news then, seems you are already on the interleaved setting because they know your connection isn't good. Your connection would probably drop all the time if they were to set you on fastpath.

As for your speed, that's seems about right. Dsl has a lot of overhead, which is speed needed to keep the connection alive. Is varies but is usually about 15% of your Actual Rate. So 15% overhead on your actual rate of 4542 kbps is 3860 kbps which is right what you got in your Speedtest.
