Hi. I have around $400 to upgrade my pc. My current specs:

Fx6300 overclocked to 4.1 with stock cooler

Gtx 750ti ftw evga

Msi970 gaming motherboard

8 gb ggdr3 ram

And corsair 600m power supply

So i have not been satisfied with the performance of the pc.

I have about 400 dollars, and after some research i've picked out these parts:

Fx8370 with wraith cooler200$

gtx970 evga hybrid 350$

Gtx960 2 gb 200$

8 gb ram 30$

cooler master hyper evo 212 $40 for overclocking fx6300 so it doesn't bottleneck gtx970 possibly

fx8350 130$

the problem is

i don't have enough money. So, which combination of these parts (under 420) would get me the best frame rate in games? (I am upgrading because of studdering  issues in-game)

any help would be greatly appreciated.

linus forums have helped so much. Thanks

970 with Hyper EVO would be best I believe. the Fx6300 probably won't bottle neck it much if any and if you can over clock more thats a plus

CPU: Intel Core i7 Extreme Edition 3960X | Motherboard: Intel DX79SR "Stormville" | RAM: 32GB G.SKILL Ripjaws Z Series DDR3 PC3-12800 (4x 8GB) Quad-Channel | GPU: 2x EVGA GTX 970 FTW 4GB in SLI (I have Many other builds plus 100+ Macs (don't judge me)... Many specs are listed on my profile)

I'd recommend you upgrade to Skylake and 16 GB of RAM:

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/CZs6wP

Once you have enough $$$, get the MSI 970 Twin Frozr V

(You don't need a water cooled 970 unless you want to do extreme OCing)

i7 4790k | MSI Z97S SLI Krait Edition | G.Skill Ripjaws X 16 GB | Samsung 850 EVO 500 GB | 2x Seagate Barracuda 2TB | MSI GTX 970 Twin Frozr V | Fractal Design R4 | EVGA 650W

A gaming PC for your budget: $800 - $1000 - $1500 - $1800 - $2600 - $9001

good point you could go with a cheaper 970... but the Intel CPU isn't that big of deal (although I am 100% team blue) 16GB of ram would be nice though

would that increase framerates more than a fx8370 overclocked with a wraithcooler and gtx960?

yes better GPU with more VRAM would trump a CPU upgrade when your current CPU is very decent for better FPS

CPU: Intel Core i7 Extreme Edition 3960X | Motherboard: Intel DX79SR "Stormville" | RAM: 32GB G.SKILL Ripjaws Z Series DDR3 PC3-12800 (4x 8GB) Quad-Channel | GPU: 2x EVGA GTX 970 FTW 4GB in SLI (I have Many other builds plus 100+ Macs (don't judge me)... Many specs are listed on my profile)

That depends on the game.  Upgrade either the GPU or CPU.  A good GPU (R9 390) will give you the best results.

FX CPUs are not good, especially for gaming.  Going from a 63XX to a 83XX won't do you much good.

yes and wait a few months to get a new GPU when they all go down and you get way more performance for your money

i would, but as the bang/buck increases so does the modern game intensity. it's still generally same price/gameperformance ratio, right?

Not right now, the R9 490/X is supposed to be at a 980 Ti level for $300ish and the new Titan/80Ti will be twice as powerful, this is a major GPU jump for the next generation of cards.

The CPU will last you longer and CPU's really aren't changing very much unlike GPU's

What I am saying is maybe he does not want to wait almost a year for a new GPU.

Since a new GPU will net him the biggest performance boost, it is a logical choice.  If you are always waiting for the next gen stuff, you will never buy anything.

I would go the safer route and buy an AMD R9 390.  DX12 is proving to use hardware that the GTX 970 lacks.

The new Hitman is showing the R9 390 within 8% of the GTX 980Ti, and the R9 390X within 4% of the GTX 980Ti, 1080p.  For long term, the R9 390 is a smarter choice.  Even for short term, the 390 is arguably better.

R9 390.  I almost feel bad recommending such an old GPU (2 years old?), but next to the GTX 970... I would personally go for the 390.
