My PC is 4-5 months old. I have no history of boot failures. Today, I had to go to a meeting and left the PC on as I was testing out a program, and I assume the program finished execution as I found the PC in sleep mode.

I pressed the mouse button to wake it, and it started waking up - with no input to the screens. It then unexpectedly shut off (heard the ' thump ' noise that it makes).

I started it up again and got nothing for several (20?) seconds, time in which the PC should have already loaded up the desktop. So I shut it off again, waited 10 seconds, and started up again.

It then spent some time loading up (with input on the screens this time) and gave me a screen saying boot failure, with options: boot normally; load default settings and reboot; enter BIOS.

It also said that memory was running 1333MHz (weirdly enough), so I entered bios to check and it was set to 1866 as usual. I quit BIOS and everything was OK (I didn't do anything in BIOS).

What could have caused this and how do I prevent this from happening again? Am I doing something wrong with my PC (my worst nightmare)?

What program where you running? Was it one that you programmed yourself or commercial software?
