Hello. I am new in this group and I from the Philippines.

I have a kind of old computer parts lying here and I am just wondering if I can improve the performance of this rig. Is it possible to overclock my old core 2 quad q6600 rev. G0 with asus p5b-vm motherboard? By the way I just want to somehow make this rig able to play some latest games in maybe low to medium settings. Any tips or suggestions? Thanks! :)

Here are the PC Specs:

-ASUS P5B-VM motherboard

-Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4ghz (rev. G0)

-4 GB ddr2 RAM 667mhz (1- 2gb stick and 2- 1gb sticks)

-Powercolor HD6670

-700 watts generic power supply

-250 GB SATA HDD

-Deepcool ice edge mini fs HSF

-Standard ASUS OEM essentio Case

Thanks in advance and more power :) cheers!

You should be able to. The processor can allow it. BUT make sure your cooling system is able to handle it.

However I do not know if your motherboard is able to handle it.

So i looked it up and people are saying all sorts of crazy things. Some say it does, some say it will not post if overclocking.

I would try it out though.

I dont think you can play the super latest games on the current setup on medium settings. Lower the settings and you should be fine.

Thanks! I would like to update the BIOS of the motherboard but as I can see the latest version is BETA version. Should I proceed with updating using the beta version or should I stick to my current bios version? Thank you for the response! :)

P.S. I can see through the specification of my heatsink that it can support up to 95W TDP of intel processor but my q6600 is 105W so I think it is also a good thing to replace my cpu cooler. Am I right?

Keep your BIOS the same.

And if you are going to overclock, it is best to replace heatsync with a better one.
