Hello,

I am new to the forum but been watching linus for a while and i need help please.

First pc details:

Hardware:

Intel i5 6600(skylake)-- not OC

MSI night elf mobo

Kingston furyx ddr4 2400

MSI amd R9 270x

HDD: WD blue 1tb

OS: Windows 10

So the problem:

When i download anything the pc starts to freeze, if the download speed is under 3mb/s it's ok but as soon as it goes up it starts to freeze and even the mouse pointer gets stuck. Now i have 1gb/s connection and in the very first day i got the pc i could download with 90mb/s but now it won't go more than 10 mb/s and when that happens it's worse than if you would use prime95 and other benchmark tools at the same time, the pc becomes virtually frozen and you cannot do anything other than to restart(mouse cursor would move every 10-20 seconds).

What i have tried:

Initially i had windows 10 and did full updates and it worked fine(was downloading with an average speed of 90 mb/s daily for several hours while even gaming lightweight games such as heartstone) but after a couple of days the issues started and i could no longer pass the 10mb/s mark.

I thought maybe an update was bad so i reinstalled windows 10 and blocked all updates from group policy and when i did a test i was reaching around 70-80 mb mark so was ok for a few hours then it started again

Right now the issue is even worse, i added a screenshot with the task manager where i have just chrome open and doing a speed test on ookla and my computer just starts freezing because of the speed test, without anything open(which it wasn't happening in the past)

PS - my brother has the same OS but a Asus gaming laptop and doesn't have this issue. Also this issue seems to be happening only when downloading over the web (copy files from usb/extracting files from archives/installing games do not slow down or affect the pc in any noticeable way)

Seems that your HDD has an issue.

My native language is C++

That 99% was because it was installing a game, i get the problem when the "system and compressed memory" starts to climb, usually it sits at 1% but as soon as i download or do a test it starts going up and sometimes it goes to even 60-70%. And when "system and compressed memory" starts to go up the freezes start, when i have disk at 99 or even 100% mouse cursor still moves, i am able to open folders and nothing happens no freezes.

I was able to do tests to have disk at 100% and cpu at 20 and all ok the pc moves fine, it's the other thing when "system and compressed memory" starts increasing it's percentage i start getting the issue, now i don't want to say that that is the issue it might be a coincidence and a build up of certain thengs pile up and cause this

Just did a download speed test on my brother's laptop(which is causing issues on my pc) and:

"system and compressed memory"  sits at 6% cpu - not like my case where it goes to almost 40%

Disk sits at 0%(he has a ssd but still didn't even increase to 1% for a second)

He can download with 30 mb/s over wifi
