How is eMMC storage?

I'm thinking of buying this laptop: http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msusa/en_US/pdp/ASUS-EeeBook-E403SA-US21-Signature-Edition-Laptop/productID.608755200

It has 128gb of eMMC storage and I want to know how bad it is compared to a SATA SSD or even a HDD.

I just got my first eMMC system recently, the Acer Revo M1-601 with 32GB of the stuff. I did do a quick Aida64 read only test on it, with attached results. So, it seems to be somewhere between a HD and SSD. Read transfer rates are not as high as even cheap SSDs but still comparable to HDs, but access times are definitely closer to SSD than HD. Of course we have to be careful that not all eMMC drives will behave the same.

for a laptop that has a battery that can last 10hrs+ with windows

@porina can you run a CrystalDiskMark test? In my experience write speeds for the eMMC are slower than SATA but faster than SD cards.

Short answer: no. I would just imagine it as like a poor man's SSD. Still better than HD access times but transfer rates are not so hot.

I don't have Windows on that box any more as it was only on there non-activated to run some quick tests. I could try a Linux equivalent if there is such a thing, and I can figure out how to do it.
