Quick check before I commit?

Hello hello,

Looking to build a "do it all" PC for home to replace my 5 year old budget system from my student days. This includes VR gaming, video editing, 3D modelling, streaming and any other intensive development tools (Unreal4 Editor in particular is kicking my current rig's ass).

Here's what I have: http://pcpartpicker.com/user/Teh_Lemon/saved/sKYscf

  • Intel i7 6700K
  • Noctua NH-U12S CPU Cooler
  • Gigabyte GA-Z170X-UD5 ATX LGA1151 Motherboard
  • Corsair Vengeance LPX 32GB (2 x 16GB) DDR4-2400 Memory
  • Samsung 850 EVO 1TB SSD
  • Corsair RMx 750W Power Supply
  • Fractal Design Define R5

Going to re-use my old graphics card and hard drives for now, plan to wait for the new 1080/490 or whatever since VR pre-orders seem to be backed up by several months anyway.

Don't really have a budget but looking to spend around £1000/$1500. I've been aiming for high-end but still "grounded in reality"-tier with these parts.

Quiet would be nice hence the case and psu. Unlikely to overclock, SLI, RAID etc. but I want to leave options open.

When in doubt, I just went with the next highest tier. An extra bit of future proofing is much preferable to running into a wall. I want my PC to work for me, not against me.

Posting this thread to make sure there aren't any incompatibilities or if I'm missing a no-brainer deal (like I did last time by getting a 560 instead of a 560 ti).

Thanks for any help!

Should be going X99 for that budget and for what you want to do with it

Also don't forget that you have to pay extra for G-sync if you ever go for an adaptive sync display.

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

Thanks for the reply, Streetguru, I'll have a look later when I have more time. The 6700K looked the most popular and was used in LTT's Christmas Guide so I never considered the 5820K/x99.

Main difference is the motherboard costs you a bit more, but then you get the higher end platform and extra CPU performance, it also makes more sense to OC the 5820K as it only turbos to 3.6ghz.
