Right, so my dad needs an SSD that he can connect to a laptop with USB 3.0 currently and maybe thunderbolt in the future, to be able to run a VM machine off that SSD, price doesn't matter just need to know the absolute fastest external SSD that I can connect to a laptop via USB 3.0. Suggestions?

Yeah I was looking at the angel bird but I think i'll go with a normal ssd and adapter for speed and price

does he need the ssd to be external or he just doesn t have enought space to fit it inside?

If it s the later, he could get a 2.5'' adapter that replaces his odd. I never used mine so i swapped it out and my laptop now has 2 mechanical drives and a 2.5'' ssd.

if he rly needs external then ssd enclosure with the sdd of his choice is an option.

Anything I write is just a comment, take is as such, there is no guarantees associated with anything I say.

Build your own out of a 840 Pro and a good external enclosure.

Yeah he's already got an SSD in the machine but he needs it so he can give it other people as well for work so it needs to be external, I reckon i'll go for the enclosure option thanks for the advice guys.

yea is you need a solid choice let me know. When you're looking though make sure you get a enclosure with a SATA III controller and most still have the SATA II especially with 2.5in enclosures.

The other really good option you would have is something that linus reviewed a while back which seems like a great product especially after talking with the company. http://www.angelbird.com/en/prod/ssd2go-98/

It also looks like they finally launched their pro eSATAp model but ouch $600 for the 240gb model.
