Hey guys,

So I'm in need of a hot swap dock right now. I need to back up my PS3 HDD and format the new HDD I'm getting to FAT32.

I have my eye on a USB swap dock that also has an SD Card reader. (I use SD cards almost daily so its a bonus for me)

Branding is irrelevant since I believe they are all chinese anyways.

So do you have any experience with them? What would you recommend?

Why would that happen?

Because PS3's do not use the same formatting that PC's use.

You have to use the PS3 backup function in the System Settings. Just plug an external HDD to your PS3 and do that. That is your only option.

I recently swapped out my PS3 HDD that way. You cannot just back it up to your Desktop HDD all willy nilly.

Thanks.

Also, the external HDD needs to be formatted to FAT32 for the PS3 to recognize it. No other format will work.

Right, sorry, I've got the mind farts today.

I'm partitioning my NTFS 1TB external HDD for a FAT32 partition and using it with the backup feature of the PS3.

I still need / want a hot swap dock (to format the HDD to FAT32 at least). So advise on that is appreciated :)

It's cool. That one you posted is fine. Really, any dock would work that accepts SATA.

Do not spend too much money on it unless you are gonna be using it for other things.

Yep, it takes a while depending on the size of the drive.
