Troubleshooting Error Codes

Thanks for spending the time to read this post,

 

At my current point, I have been struggling with my computer because of its error codes.

 

1. Motherboard | MSI X99S Gaming 7 AC | Already Replaced from RMA

2. CPU | Intel i7 5930K | Not Yet Replaced

3. Ram | Corsair Vengeance LPX | 16 GB | Not Replaced (Will Explain)

4. If need more parts info, ask me.

 

The problem I am having is that 3 weeks ago I saw an issue where I had played on my PC the night before. I logged off at about 11 PM and shut it down. When I woke, I had turned it on and it instantly was stuck in a boot loop. I had not done anything other than trying regular methods...

1. Trying with 1 RAM

2. Taking out cables (MB, PS Power, etc.)

3. Resetting CMOS with both battery and simple button on I/O

4. Re-seating all components.

 

The problem I am having now is that the computer is going to following codes in the order: 04 > 60 > 55.

 

The codes keep cycling through so it repeats the numbers time after time...

Yeah, the computer is not posting whatsoever and is in an infinite loop.

It doesn't turn on and off again, but it is a infinite loop of error codes.

I have the manual with me and the following me the following.

04: South Bridge Initilization

60: Regular

55: Early Memory Initilization

Is that all it says for 60? Seems a bit vague?

The manual doesn't state anything for a 60... so I assume it is regular function of it turning on.

I am sure because it has the the space between the top and middle on the right.

good good, quick google looks like bad ram or board is dead so far which is the norm for boot cycles, try cleaning the ram slots with compressed air and the sticks with a cotton bud and ensuring your pushing them in and using the correct slots, 

 

another issue could be the CPU installed with bent pins so if ram comes up with nothing, or you are confident you have already tried it every way possible then pull out the CPU and inspect for issues, as it happened when you went to bed my money is on possible power surge and dead MOBO, it still under warranty?

yes it is under warranty.

 

I got my RAM replaced today. It broke when I had EVGA memory... D:

The motherboard is already replaced but I can do an RMA again.

I am going to replace my Power Supply tomorrow and see if that helps anything...

I will get the CPU checked and tested on another system ASAP/

hi there

i had the same issue with my system running an i7 5960x with quad channel corsair ddr4 dominator memory 32gb. the motherboard has been updated to the latest bios ver 2.50 as per msi website. the system did not post. 

the manual states you should install on dimms, 1,3, 5 & 7 for quad channel. the system did not post with this configuration. 

This did not work for my system. 

After further experimentation, i finally got it to work with testing dimms installed on 1,2, 3 & 4. 

i cannot figure out why this works?

i hope this helps out people that are experiencing the same issue as it did with me. hope this saves time;D

UPDATE: Now that I have had several hours to test RAM, I have come to the conclusion that DIMM slots 1-2-4-8 do NOT work, but I did get all 4 sticks running in any combination on 3-5-6-7. In running these 4, I am getting all 16GB of RAM, I don't know any numbers or specifics other than that is what is reported to me in the computer. In my opinion, this is a motherboard problem but I will update one final time on Saturday after I go up to MicroCenter and test other RAM modules. If this is confirmed on those slots, then MSI sent me a bad board even though it appears to have been new (box, cables, booklets, and all). Don't know what else to say on that. 

Thanks for all the help, I will at least update and respond when available at least to satisfy curiosity and give results.

id try the ram in a diff system to test if possible and then strip CPU, I wouldn't suspect the power supply for a reason not to post as no errors are showing for power issues, its showing south bridge and memory so both issues would lead to each other cropping up as they need to communicate to initialize the boot, bad things come in 3's as they say  just try to get your shipping covered if you are having to return for the second time! haha!

also get yourself a surge protector (if you haven't already) as bad wiring or a faulty local grid could lead to more issue down the line! And I have never electrostatic shocked a piece of hardware personally so it broke but ensure you are installing with anti static wrist band or constantly touching and earth source such as the PSU outer shell to just rule that issue out so it isn't an installation error as this could be your 3rd board.....may just be unlucky! Let us know if you figure it out either way
