Sorry in advance i'm all new to this stuff

So I have a 160GB 7200RPM hard drive connected by sata to my computer now. I took this thing out of an old laptop and unallocated it with this windows program seen below. I plan to install Ubuntu Server 15.10 on it and have an 8gb usb stick in my computer right now with the Ubuntu ISO on it. First problem is the BIOS isn't detecting the hdd but windows is (Motherboard is a ASRock FM2A88M Extreme 4 plus). Also when I try to boot of the USB stick I get the Error:

Disk I/O error

Replace the disk and then press any key to continue

when I do press a key it goes into my second boot priority which is my 1tb with windows on it.

If you guys could tell me what to do to fix the problem and get Ubuntu installed ill be a very happy camper :D

Usually this is the just a problem of the computer not detecting Ubuntu. Since you are using a USB Drive, use something like Universal-USB-installer or the like to make the ISO. If you simply opened the ISO and copied all the files to the USB, it will not detect is as it boots up.

This^^

You may need to format the drive first, but most BIOS support none formatted drives so perhaps just try another port.

I recommend Yumi personally, but it really doesn't matter.

Just download a linux bootable drive creator, select the iso, drive, and allow formatting then you're golden. If it persist you can try running the live version from the usb and install it from there rather than the regular boot method or partition the 160gb drive and make a small boot sector and install onto the larger section.
