How would you paint an IO shield? I want to use black spray paint over a coat of primer, but I'm not sure if it'll stay over time. Should I use a clear coat after I paint or will the paint be fine on its own? (Honestly, I'm not too worried about the finish, just the color). I'm using the Silverstone SG13B with the ASRock H97M-ITX/ac (I deliberately chose to NOT go with an overclockable chip), but I don't want that shiny steel. If it'll peel, I don't want to go paint it if I'm going to have to tear the thing apart to paint it later over and over again.

spray paint over primer should be fine i mean the IO shield doesn't move or anything, Unless you try plugging USB ports and scratching the IO shield. It should be fine.

The rear of the PC will be accessed relatively frequently (since it'll live on top of a desk rather than under it), so I don't know how fast spray paint would rub or scratch off...

easy just get primer and your spray paint, remove the io shield then get a small tarp of a few newspapers (or an actual tarp)  then apply the primer to io shield, wait a couple of hours then apply spray paint and wait another couple of hours for it to dry also btw only prime and paint the side that you will see

The question isn't whether I CAN paint it (I'm a relatively skilled spray painter), it's SHOULD I paint it? But thanks anyways!

Yea shouldn't be an issue to paint it just make sure the interior side if your painting that also doesn't have that metal cover foam since the paint will come off of that when flexed.

My biggest concern would be damage during re-installation of the shield - try to avoid unnecessary flexing.

Otherwise definitely scuff sand the surface prior to priming, and use an etching primer.

Ok, thanks.
