Hello guys,

So I have the following problem:

I traveled by plane and I left my 5TB Seagate Backup+ (Desktop External Drive) in my luggage between clothes, packaged fairly secure.

When I plugged it today in my laptop it recognized that it is bitlocker encrypted and I entered my password and it accepted it, but win10 said  “The disk structure is corrupted and unreadable”

I thought that the drive is gone and tried some partition recovery tools but without any luck. Check Disk wouldn't work... nothing!

Next I decided to try the disk on a friends laptop... and it worked, it opened the disk properly and I got a message to "Scan and Repair" the drive... I did that, every file was on the drive and It seemed to work flawlessly. Then I safely removed it and plugged it back to my laptop and same story all over again.

At the moment the HDD is plugged in to my friends laptop and I am removing the BitLocker, I hope this works so atleast if I have to reformat, I will be able to recover files.
The drive is 2.75TB full, so everything takes forever.

Any thoughts... suggestions?

The data MUST stay on the drive, although I have it backed up, but unfortunately its 2500 miles away from me.

P.S. - Both machines run latest Win10 build (non insider), both on USB3.0

i had the same problem. it was also a 5tb seagate hard drive, i was so pissed off because i thought it was the software that came with a external drive cloner. luckily you did the smart thing and tried another pc, i just formatted it and had to wait at least 12 hours for all the files to be recovered, then a few more to move them to two other 2 tbs . The worst part was i had over 100k of music files and after recovery all the songs were scrambled and needed to be organized again.

i searched on the web but couldnt find anything about the problem , now i wonder if its the drive itself that is inferior?

if i post a link to amazon try to use the LTT affiliate code to help the channel http://www.amazon.com/?_encoding=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&linkCode=ur2&tag=linustechtips-20

try to uninstall the drivers and reinstall them, it might be corrupt drivers.

Tried that... tried chkdsk in cmd... Only thing I haven't tried is decrypting the drive, which I am doing for over 24hours now and its still at 40%.
