Hello,

So i built a machine for one of my buddies about 10 months ago, and recently is has been randomly shutting off on him. So i did some trouble shooting and his CPU was running pretty hot so i figured it could be due to thermals, however i am not convinced. I have updated all the drivers also. Could it be the PSU?

here is the part list: http://pcpartpicker.com/user/Curis/saved/#view=rsB2FT

The 212 evo is new so that is not installed yet i ordered that because of the overheating.

Please help!

Check how the thermal paste is holding up, and if need be try refreshing it.

I recently switched my stock cooler to a 212 evo too, I reached temps of about 100c when I was playing games with the stock cooler.

The correct way to test a PSU is to put it under some heavy load for a while, so stress-testing is probably the best way to blame it on something.

Tux ftw

CPU: Intel i5-3470

GPU: MSI GTX 780

OS: GNU/Linux.

Shutting down Windows or actually turning completely off?

If it's turning off, the PSU is most likely broken.

It could be the processor hitting thermal limits but in that case it should be pretty consistent, for example if you put a certain load onto it.

It completely turns off and yes it is when the computer is under load, so i will stress test it some more and apply new thermal paste with the 212 evo and hopefully that is it!
