I've got my parts and ive built the system... I powered it on and it doesnt work. I took out all the parts and did a basic post with just the mobo, cpu, cpu fan, and ram, and it worked. When I put all the parts back in the case it doesnt work... I tried putting electrical tape over the standoffs too but that doesnt work either... Its an asrock z97 mobo and nzxt h230 case. the cpu and ram are operational. Please help me I want this thing to work... Thank you

Try experimenting to determine if it's a USB device or a SATA device causing the problem.

Could also be a problem with expansion slots or expansion cards, if you've got any of those installed.

Ive done the bare post most basic post test, so it couldnt be any of those... -_-

What do you mean by it doesnt work? No output to the display, or just plain wont switch on? Sorry for asking again but needed a little more info

Well at least you've figured out that it's a part connected to the motherboard that isn't working, could be worse.

Recently my old 1.3GHz Celeron system would freeze at the Windows XP loading screen, eventually I found out that one of the PCI slots was not working when it had the sound card installed.

did you try switching on the PC from the case's power button or the motherboard itself? It is possible the button is not wired properly

I dont think its that.... because even with just the cpu, ram, and fan instlled  in the case it still wont power on

Here's an idea:

Install the motherboard, CPU, RAM and all those parts into the case, but keep the power supply outside the case when you try booting the system.

Heck it could even be that a power connector is twisted in such a way that it doesn't contact, who knows.

I had a similar problem a while ago, but that was because my CPU wasnt seated properly when the board was vertically oriented....it was an old socket and im guessing that cannot be your issue but it wouldnt hurt to check again...

idk how to check that, i dont think there is a post code

Some motherboards have a little LCD with a usually 2 digit code. If it doesn't have that, the corner of the screen usually has the code on it.
