HDD Issues

I recently built my computer and set everything up fine. My sata cable plugged in, power provided. The sata cable was plugged in to both my Disk drive and my hard drive. When I turned on my computer, I heard a wierd noise and started to smell burnt rubber. Turns out my disk drive was smoking out of the back. Soemthing had malfunctioned, but im not sure what actually happened and how I should fix it. My computer does not recognize my HDD and now I cant install windows 10. Im thinking my HDD is broken and I should replace it. I was thinking about just getting a SSD for the time being, but im not sure if my SSD will break too. Any ideas?
