Utorrent question

Will putting my computer to sleep in the middle of a utorrent download create the chance for the file being downloaded to be corrupted, or will the download just pause?

@duckwithanokhat it would just pause wherever it got to. Torrent clients have all sorts of checks for this kind of stuff, which is necessary when it downloads hundreds or thousands of little file fragments from random computers across the internet.

I would recommend moving to another torrent client than utorrent though. It's had some problems in recent times.

No, the file will download and corrupted files are going to be when your internet disconnects

What are you talking about? Explicit piracy isn't allowed, but that's a completely different thing.

The way they usually work is that they split the file into anywhere from 2MB-8MB chunks and each chunk is downloaded. They also check the file's chunks. It won't corrupt since the client will just shut off downloads on loss of connection until it returns.

If something like 1 chunk is missing in a video file it could completely corrupt the file or have a large stutter inside the clip.

Really the file just won't finish downloading if the connection drops. And the download can be continued from any point time unless the download is done.

Pieces can be significantly smaller than that. It varies. The point is, if a couple of pieces that were in progress get cut off, the client can just ditch them and start over, with negligible loss of overall download progress when you start it back up later. And file corruption is prevented by hashing checks.
