I'm looking to upgrade my CPU, and debating between a 6700K or a 4790K. I have a LGA1150 board, so upgrading the the 6700K will mean a new board and new memory.

The 4790K is already about $500 (AUD), and the 6700K is a similar price. However, to get a decent board that will fit my needs, will be another $300 - $400 AUD, and memory (DDR4) would be anotherr $150 or so.

So should I save up for the next ages and get the 6700K, or go for the 4790K which could become outdated soon?

Just the way it was for me (in Australia as well), if you have the motherboard, just get the 4790K as a 6700K really isn't worth the additional cost of a new motherboard+RAM. As it is I ended up getting a Z97 Sabvertooth MKII as an upgrade from an H87M Pro, but that was because I needed the expand-ability of an ATX motherboard (had my 4790K at up to 4.8GHz on the H87M Pro-that 8pin CPU power connector is there for a reason).

I'd get a xeon since you have a H board.

With the way Haswell is designed, as long as the bios supports overclocking unlocked CPU, it doesn't matter if its H97 or Z97. My H87M Pro is proof of that.

Yes yes, just like how that fatal1ty H87 board allowed you change voltage like a Z board. But obviously, OP doesn't have that board. Nor does OP have the same board as you.

If I don't state it in my post, probably means I don't advise it.

Did you check the product page for the motherboard? Because it does support overclocking, meaning that a Z97 motherboard isn't needed. http://www.gigabyte.com.au/products/product-page.aspx?pid=5000#ov

Edit: I'll say it again. "That 8 pin CPU power connector is there for a reason".

All I see is an app that "automatically" overclocks the system. Doesn't state anywhere about changing cpu voltages and what not.

Though even if it does support it, (Just to make sure you get it) I don't advise it.
