Solid State Beast Mode loses PCIe func?

Hello all,

quick question - I am going to build a little SSD beast for compositing large HD+ sequences. Here is my spec:

 

Samsung 950 Pro 256GB M.2 SSD for the OS and Apps

2 x Intel 750 PCI-Express 400GB SSD  in RAID 0 for data/cache

Intel Core i7 6700K proc

EVGA GeForce GTX 980 ACX 2.0 4GB gpu

ASRock Z170M Extreme4 LGA 1151 Intel Z170

 

my question:

am I going to "max out" or lose any PCIe functionality with this build? Am i gonna run out of lanes guys?

All slots (including M.2) will be used....

Nope. 4X + 4X + 8X = 16X. 6700K = 20 lanes.

If you put your gpu in pcie 1, a intel 750 in pcie 3 and another in pcie 4 and the 950 pro in the m.2 slot your ssds will all run in 4x mode and your gpu in 8x mode. 8x vs 16x makes no difference in performance.

Hey I don't want to be the elephant in the room but what not a x99 5820k/5930k/xeon build.

You won't run out of PCIe lanes and the extra cores will be much better for encoding HD+ Sequences.

A good point Schoolofmonkey - I plan on going Skylake-E later in the year or early next year - honestly just wanted to get into a new rig now.

When Skylake-E happens the ASRock Z170M mobo, 6700k, and RAM will upgrade one of my sad old render nodes in my once almighty render farm.
