Buying an SSD

Is there anything I need to look out for with buying an ssd? For instance If I am not sure my (fairly old) mother board has sata 3 how do I find out? I bought my computer premade and had little luck finding my mobo online. Please help me thank you ^-^

If you're unsure, ask here. There's a couple of SSDs that aren't very good for various reasons, but a lot that sort of stuff is learned from experience, so people here can advise you. 

 

Do you know the motherboard model? The model should be printed on the board.

Use CPU-Z, give us either the chipset or CPU model and you can easily find out if it supports SATA3.  ALso for SSD's, check SMART data for reallocated blocks to see how much has been used on it.

That board only has SATA 2 ports. So you're going to be limited to 3Gb/s, which is around 350MB/s - 370MB/s when you factor in general performance overheads.

 

You'd still get benefits from moving to an SSD, but the SATA interface will be limiting the sequential read/write performance.
