Hello everyone,

I recently built myself a new rig and I'm not sure on how to proceed display-wise. I am currently sporting a 60hz, 24inch 1080p Monitor which seems to be getting smaller every day... So I want something bigger and better.

-Do you think it makes sense to invest in an 1440p monitor before uprading my GPU?

-What kind of FPS can I expect with my current Setup in 1440p? (Could I even use a 100+ hz monitor?)

-What monitor would you recommend at the $500-700 range?

CPU:     Intel i7 6700k

Case:   CM Mastercase 5 Pro

Mobo:  ASUS ROG Maximus VIII Ranger

RAM:    HyperX FURY DDR4-2400

GPU:    Palit 970

PSU:    Corsair RM750x

SSD:    Samsung EVO 850 250gb

HDD:    WD Red 2tb

Cooling: Corsair H110i GT

Thanks guys!

A 970 is certainly capable of nice 1440p performance (except you always want maximum graphics in every single game that is out).

For the 1440p monitor definitely get a ips model, in that price range you can look for a gsync model.

Personally im waiting for affordable 4k oled monitors.....or someone who will buy me a 5000$   Dell UP3017Q

That low? Didn't think it was going to be that bad :D

Eh, don´t quote me on it. I don´t have too much info on exact numbers, too many fluctuations

Been gaming with a MSi 970 and a 3570K on a PG278Q (1440p 144Hz panel) and with the "right" settings you will achieve solid FPS in modern games. GTA V and Witcher 3 ran ALWAYS above 60FPS on mostly high settings. By going 1440p you can drop down the AA settings which will already result in quite a nice FPS boost compared to higher AA dependable 1080p. For solely gaming I recommend the PG278Q, for productivity get something else, because the viewingangles are rubbish. Got it used though so it was a good deal in my opinion.

To be fair, doesn´t Witcher 3 and GTA V have gameworks?.

I'd not recommend 1440p on a GTX 970. That's coming from someone with 1440p and a GTX 980 (1,5ghz). I get dips to mid 40's in games like Rise of the Tomb Raider, a 970 would be mid 30's (or 30's if stock).

The 970 and 390 can handle 1440p, just not at high settings.

Thanks for the Input guys.

Honestly I didn't just drop 1.3k on a new build to play at medium settings... So I will probably go for a new GPU first. I guess anything below a 980ti wont really suffice...

For Max 1440p? Not really. You want Nano and higher for that.
